How Art Has Hurt And Healed Jews

Artist Alex Woz in collaboration with the European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS), delivered a compelling lecture titled, "How Art Has Hurt and Healed Jews." In his presentation, Woz explored the profound impact art has had on Jewish people and their history, from the ancient misrepresentations by Egyptian priest Manetho to the harmful anti-Zionist propaganda of the Soviet Union. He examined how art has been used as a tool for persecution and humiliation of Jews, citing examples from Roman, Christian, Nazi, and Soviet regimes. Woz went on to highlight the resilience of Jewish artists who have used creativity as healing and empowerment to counteract the hate, stereotypes, and violence perpetrated against them. His insightful discussion aimed to provide a deeper understanding of these dynamics and support the burgeoning Jewish art renaissance. The sessions were recorded and will be available for viewing soon.
