Hidden Truths – A Purim Open Call

It all begins with an idea.

In 1944, Marc Chagall was grieving the loss of his wife, Bella. Overcome with sorrow, he stopped painting—until one day, he discovered an unfinished canvas in his studio. The image was surreal: an angel floating above a violinist, caught between worlds. Picking up his brush, as if guided by an unseen force, he continued. That moment reminded him why he painted—to capture dreams, emotions, and mysteries that words couldn’t express.

Art has always been a space where the impossible becomes possible. It invites us to see beyond the surface, much like Purim—a holiday of hidden truths, shifting identities, and unexpected turns of fate.

Call for Artists: Hidden Truths

This Purim, Art World for Israel invites artists to submit works exploring hidden identities—artworks that reveal, conceal, and transform.

We welcome interpretations of this theme in any medium. Pieces may take the form of a carnival mask, a crown, a ratchet, Haman’s ear (hamantashen), or another Purim-related symbol, and explore hidden truths through surreal or unexpected imagery.
